-Designers need to pay close attention to how color is utilized within a composition because color is not the only element of a design so he or she needs to make sure it doesn't take away from

Why is the color wheel an important tool for graphic designers?
-The color wheel helps graphic designers make new colors from the 12 basic ones. It helps them find a color in between two other colors.

Find an example of neutral colors utilized within a design (hint: google poster design). Near the sample, discuss why you feel the designer included neutral colors within the composition.

In this picture the artist used neutral colors to make the picture have more of a calm feeling. The scene is supposed to quiet and the color is not the most important detail, therefore the colors are more "plain."

Briefly describe how we "see" the color of an object?

-Light bounces or reflects off other objects and the photons send messages to the brain and then we see only the reflected color. All colors hit an object when the wavelengths do but some are absorbed (the colors we do not see).

Maximize productivity, minimize visual fatigue, and relax the whole body.

Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allow us to see color?
Visible light waves.

Describe white light?
Equal parts of all colors in the visible spectrum.

How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
They absorb or reflect one or more colors in the visible spectrum.

What is a glass prism?
A transparent triangular object that breaks white light into all the colors of the visible light spectrum.

What seven colors result when white light is refracted through a prism?
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

Describe hue?
The color itself.

When does white light occur?
When all the wavelengths are reflected back to your eye.

When does black light occur?
When no light is reflected to your eye.

How color is perceived depends on what?
The type of light that it is seen with.

What is a color wheel?
A visual tool that shows the relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

What are primary colors? Name them?
Red, Yellow, Blue.

What are secondary colors? Name them?
Green, Orange, Violet.

What are tertiary colors? Name them?
A mixture between one primary and one secondary color. Red-orange, red-violet, blue-violet, blue green, yellow-green, yellow-orange.

What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
Colors of very low saturation. By mixing a complementary color pair.

How can a neutral color help a design?
Help to put focus on other colors or tone down overpowering colors.

What are complementary colors? Name them?
Colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. Red/Green, Orange/Blue, Yellow/Violet.

What is color value?
The lightness or darkness of a hue.

What is a shade?
When you add black to a color.

What is a tint?
When you add white to a color.

What is saturation/intensity?
The brightness of a color.

What happens when you mix complementary colors together?
You produce a dull tone.

Describe color harmony?
Something that is pleasing to the eye and engages the viewer creating an inner sense of order.

What is a color scheme?
Harmonious color combinations.

Describe a monochromatic color scheme?
Uses different values of the same color.

Describe an analogous color scheme?
Uses three colors that are adjacent to each other on a color wheel.

Describe a complementary color scheme?
Uses two colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel.

Describe a split-complementary color scheme?
Uses a color and the two colors adjacent to it's complement.

Describe a triadic color scheme?
Uses three colors equally spaced around the color wheel.

What colors are considered to be warm colors?
Yellows, Oranges, or Reds.

Describe a warm color scheme?
Appear to be closer. Vivid in nature. Used to express aggression.

What colors are considered to be cool colors?
Blues, Greens, and Violets.

Describe a cool color scheme?
Cool colors are soothing in nature. Comforting and nurturing. Appear to be farther away.

Why is important to consider which colors are being used within a design?
The right color choice can convey the right message and evoke the desired response.

Review Week 6

What is the pen tool used for?
It is used to draw freely by using a starting and an ending point to make shapes.

How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator? Discuss the use of the white arrow tool, pen+, pen-, and convert too.
A line or shape made by the pen tool is made up of points that are connected. In order to change the shape or manipulate the path you have to use the white arrow tool to click on the point and use the arrows to change the line.

How can you utilize the layers palette in Illustrator?
The layers tool allows you to trace artwork and the later delete the original piece and keep our own. We can do this by putting the picture on one layer, locking it and then adding another layer and drawing on it

How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?
In order to make a clipping mask you have to: 
1). Use the rectangle tool
2). Trace exactly where you want the shape of the clipping mask to be (make sure there is no border or fill)
3). Go to object; arrange; send to back
4). Click the black arrow tool and drag it around the whole design (even if it is outside your desired area)
5). Go to object; clipping mask; make

Review Week 5

Texture
This picture shows the element of design, texture. The way the colors are painted gives it the appearance of texture. The splotches and drops of browns and grays makes it look old. Even though the poster is obviously flat when i first looked at it, I thought it was actually crinkled and worn.

Line
This picture uses the element line. This poster has many emotions and feeling. Because it's black and white it looks calm but the vertical lines give it a feeling of height and out of reach. Then the few horizontal lines give it a feeling of calm or rest. The random diagonal lines were most likely added to give a feeling of movement or suspense, as if they are about to fall or jump. Also the thin lines are simple and quiet but the few thick lines make a bold statement.
